The World Kidney Day is being observed in the country as elsewhere in the world on Thursday.
Various organisations are marking the day with different programmes.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in separate messages have hoped that the day would help in creating awareness among the people about kidney disease, reports BSS.
The president in his message said the number of slow kidney failure patients have been increasing due to nephritis, diabetes, high blood pressure and other complexities.
He said such treatment is highly expensive and further initiatives have to be taken to increase advantages of dialysis and transplantation of kidneys.
Sheikh Hasina said around two crore people suffers from kidney diseases in the country.
She also urged for arranging pure drinking water, eradicating malnutrition and providing treatment of infectious diseases to disadvantaged people.
