Training on Bio-Informatics begins at DU

A five-day long training programme on “Bio-Informatics for Biological Research” organized by the Department of Zoology, Dhaka University (DU) under Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) began Sunday at the ‘Prof. Dr. Mahmud-Ul-Ameen Auditorium’ of the Department. The World Bank funded the project conducted by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC).

17-11-13DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the programme as chief guest. Chairman of the Department of Zoology Prof Dr MA Howlader presided over the programme while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr Shahid Akhtar Hossain and Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof Dr Md. Imdadul Hoque addressed as special guests. Sub-Project Manager of HEQEP Prof. Dr. Gulshan Ara Latifa delivered welcome address and Associate Sub-Project Manager of HEQEP Prof. Dr. Abu Tweb Abu Ahmed gave vote of thanks, a press release said.

Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique in his speech expressed the hope that the training programme would be helpful to conduct biological research, survey and preserve data for biodiversity research. He urged the researchers to keep the furtility of lands and fulfil food demand of people of the country through research. He also stressed the need to create awarness among the public in this regard and wished success of the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project

It may be mentioned that a total of 25 teachers and researchers of various Departments of the Faculty of Biological Sciences of Dhaka University are participating in the training programme.
