Robi signs deal to facilitate One Bank’s OK mobile banking

Robi Axiata Limited, the fastest growing mobile operator in Bangladesh, signed an agreement with One Bank Limited to facilitate Mobile Financial Services.

Robi Managing Director & CEO, Supun Weerasinghe, and ONE Bank Ltd. Managing Director, M Fakhrul Alam, inked the agreement today at the Robi Corporate Office in Gulshan.

DSC_0848(1)Under the terms of the agreement, Robi will act as a facilitator for distribution network & Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) provision for ONE Bank Mobile Money (OK Banking) Service, which will be launched very soon.

Speaking in the occasion the Robi CEO said, “Mobile Financial Services can bring about a sea change in a country like Bangladesh because so many people are still outside the formal banking system. We are proud to be associated with One Bank on a project that will reach banking services to the underserved in the towns and villages across our country and empower previously disadvantaged communities.”

“Robi currently has 6 MFS partners servicing 3.3 Million Robi m-wallet users. With the inclusion of OK banking, we will continue to strive forward in extending banking services to unbanked and under-banked population of Bangladesh.” -he added.

Echoing Supun’s sentiment, the One Bank MD, M Fakhrul Alam, added “this mobile banking initiative is a milestone in the area of Mobile Financial Services. There is an immense potential to facilitate the last mile banking for financial inclusion of the unbanked communities through the USSD, SMS channels.”

From Robi Matiul Islam Nowshad, Chief Human Resources Officer, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, Chief Financial Officer, Dewan Nazmul Hasan, Head of Finance & Regulations, Digital Services and from ONE Bank Ltd. Adil Raihan, Executive Vice President ,Ahmad Tabshir Choudhury, Head of IT, Mahedi Hasan, Senior Assistant Vice President, and other senior officials of both the organizations were present at the signing ceremony.

OK was launched on 5th September 2013 with the aim to provide banking services for the under-banked and unbanked population of Bangladesh. ONE Bank serves its nation-wide valuable clients through more than 5,000 ONE Bank own agent points and another 15000 partner pay-points. The customer can get OK Service from all the branches of ONE Bank Ltd and OK accredited Paypoints, and other mobile phone outlets.
