Nat’l academy for varsity teachers soon: UGC Chair

Sufficient number of national academy for university teachers needs to be established for their professional development. At the same time, ethics, morality, motivation and communication skills also need to be laid emphasized in the foundation training course for young university teachers’ skills development, observed UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan.

He made the observation while speaking as the chief guest at a certificate awarding ceremony of the 15th foundation training for university teachers at UGC auditorium on Wednesday. UGC UGCMembers- Prof Dr Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, Prof Dr Abul Hashem, Prof Dr Md. Akhtar Hossain, Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah and Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum spoke on the occasion. Prof Dr Mozahar Ali, Director of Graduate Training Institute, Bangladesh Agricultural University delivered the welcome address on the occasion.

UGC Chairman also said that Graduate Training Institute (GTI) has been producing skilled and accomplished manpower through conducting foundation training course to the young university teachers of the country for a long time and added that trained teachers are highly needed for generating quality students in today’s competitive world.

He observed that huge expansion has taken place in tertiary level education in the country. Now time has come to maintain quality education in higher education. For this, teacher-student congenial atmosphere should be maintained and distance between students and teachers reduced.

25 young teachers of different public universities of the country took part in the 15th foundation-training course financed by UGC and conducted by Graduate Training Institute, Bangladesh Agricultural University in its own campus. UGC Secretary Dr Md. Khaled, divisional heads and other officials the Commission were present on the occasion.
