First-ever motor racing held in Dhaka

rally-bd-400The first-ever motor racing event of Bangladesh was held on Saturday with a view to promoting youths in creative works.

The daylong event, titled Nitol-Tata Rallycross Championship 2014, was organised by the Bangladesh Motor Sports at the Dhaka International Trade Fair ground in the city.

State minister for youth and sports Shri Biren Sikder inaugurated the event as chief guest.

He said sports help people to stay sound and think in a positive way and expressed his hope that the event would be able to brighten the country’s image in the world.

Secretary for ministry of civil aviation and tourism Khurshed Alam Chowdhury said this type of event could help youths to keep away from drugs and bring out some youth icons.

In the competition, 35 teams including Team Globatt, Team Mobil1, Team Omera Lube1, Team Bangladesh Tourism Board and Team Enoc Lubricants took part under four groups based on cubic capacities of vehicles – ranged from 2000 cc and above to 1000 cc.

The programme was attended, among others, by Bangladesh Tourism Board chief executive officer Akhtaruzzaman Khan and Nitol Tata chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmed.

Nitol-Niloy Group and Tata Motors Bangladesh were the main sponsors of the event while BTB was the co-sponsor.

Associate partners were Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, Banglacat, Castrol, Channels9, Dunlop, Elite Force, Fast Lane, Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital, Lucas, Mediamax Communications, Mountain Dew, Music Planet, Pragati Life Insurance Limited, R3V and Radio Shadhin.
