Entrepreneurs keep economic wheel rolling on: Com Secy

Mr. Hedayetullah Al Mamoon, ndc, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Commerce appreciated the contribution of the entrepreneurs to keep country’s economic wheel rolling on, which he mentioned very important to achieve our national objective of transforming Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041. He said, since its inception IBFB has been playing a vital role in the development of business community and economy of the country.

The Commerce Secretary was speaking as the Chief Guest at the inauguration ceremony of the new office of IBFB held on Tuesday, 15 September 2015 at 04:00 pm at its present location at Tejgaon Industrial Area, Dhaka. Mr. David Meale, Chargé d’affaires, Dhaka U.S. Embassy, Mr. Abdul Matlub Ahmad, President, FBCCI and Ms. Elizabeth Gourlay, Consul General, Dhaka U.S. Embassy were also present as Special Guests.

Mr. David Meale, while speaking as Special Guest said, in this span of time IBFB has progressed a lot and established itself as a premier non-partisan business organization in Bangladesh. He appreciated IBFB’s ongoing advocacy effort on overseas investment by Bangladeshi entrepreneurs and hoped that it, if allowed by the Govt., will have great impetus on business and economy of the country.

In his speech as Special Guest, Mr. Abdul Matlub Ahmad, President of FBCCI invited IBFB to team up with FBCCI in carrying out research and advocacy on different issues for the betterment of business and economy.

At the outset, IBFB President Mr. Hafizur Rahman Khan mentioned in his opening remarks the journey and some remarkable achievements of IBFB. Starting with just seven members while launching on 14th September 2006, he said, IBFB now have 435 Members including 12 Life Members. The first Chapter Office of IBFB was launched in Chittagong in 2012 and more chapter offices will gradually be established in major economically important cities around the country and abroad, he mentioned. IBFB is also working on to establish a separate Entrepreneurship Development Institute in near future. Mr. Hafizur Rahman Khan mentioned, IBFB carried out several research works on different important business and economic issues and accomplished more than 60 advocacy workshops and seminars in different cities like Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Bogra etc. in the past nine years. In order to explore business opportunities and enhance bilateral business relationship Business Delegation from IBFB visited different countries such as Bhutan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, USA etc. Presently IBFB is working on a vital issue namely “Overseas Investment by Bangladeshi Entrepreneurs”.

The U.S. Consul General Ms. Elizabeth Gourlay recalled that in order to reduce visa processing time and hassles for IBFB Members, the U.S. Embassy Consular Section partnered with IBFB and introduced Business Visa program.

Mr. Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury, Founding President of IBFB gave thanksgiving remarks to the audiences present at the event.
