BANGLADESH: States must call out violations of civic freedoms at upcoming UN review

Bangladesh's human rights record is going to be reviewed at the 44th session of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on 13 November 2023.  CIVICUS and AHRC submitted a stakeholder submission for the UPR in April 2023 where our organisations highlight a range of issues. Out of the 29 recommendations Bangladesh received during the previous cycle of the UPR related to civic space, it has only partially implemented one, says a press release of the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC).

Dialogue without preconditions, Haas for political parties

The United States ambassador to Bangladesh, Peter Haas, on Tuesday called political parties for dialogue without any preconditions to resolve ongoing crisis in the country. Kalabagan Tentultala playground protection movement: mother and son released 

Syeda Ratna and her youngest son, Isa Abdullah Sadekin Piyanshuk, were freed on bail by the police after they mounted a demonstration against the construction of the Kalabagan police station building at the Kalabagan Tentultala field in August.
