BD set to supplant China top cotton importer

As China’s economy has grown, it has become the largest importer of raw materials from copper to iron ore. Yet for one commodity, at least, it’s poised to lose that title. Bangladesh 142nd on HDI Index

The Human Development Report 2015, released on Monday, put Bangladesh in the medium human development category with 142nd position out of 188 countries, territories. Bangladesh’s HDI (Human Development Index) value for 2014 is 0.570, said the UNDP report - work for human development, reported news agency UNB. More higher-skilled jobs top priority for Bangladesh

World Bank (WB) Senior Vice President and Chief Economist Kaushik Basu said here Sunday creating more higher-skilled jobs was a top priority for Bangladesh. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) encouraged Bangladesh on Saturday to use the more than $553 million it has provided so far in loans to develop a capital market and attract private investors. November exports up 13.73pc as garment sales surge

Bangladesh’s exports rose 13.73 percent to $2.75 billion in November from a year earlier, driven by stronger garment sales, official data showed on Sunday. Representatives from coastal and island countries from across Asia gathered in Bangkok yesterday to discuss how they can forge stronger inter-regional cooperation to promote Blue Economy approaches to address marine and coastal conservation challenges in the region.
