BRACUniversity has recently held the official launch of its English Campaign in the idyllic Savar Campus grounds, which had been dressed in colorful, motivational and educational banners and posters for the inauguration.
The English Campaign aims at empowering students to compete globally by excelling in English.
The event was host to a number of distinguished guests, including BRAC University Vice Chancellor Professor Ainun Nishat, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Fuad Hassan Mallick and Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed, Director of BRAC Institute of Languages (who each gave a speech on the importance of English) and representatives from the press.
A special note on the proper use of Bangla, to ensure our valuable traditions and heritage are not lost, was also extended to the hundreds of students looking on.
The huge effort that went into organizing the launch benefitted greatly from student ‘English Champions’, who entered wholeheartedly in the spirit of the Campaign, which involved an exciting blend of activities. A day long Spelling Bee competition, poetry recitals and a song performance about Savar campus preceded an hour of fun filled English games (including Charades, Pictionary, and Hangman), designed to advance students’ English proficiency.
Students typically choose to indulge in the splendid food on offer before shouts of laughter and excitement came from groups dotted all over both fields, with students by them fully engaged in activities, as the sun set.
With university faculty, BRAC University alumni and members of the Student English Committee from Mohakhali having all made the long journey from Dhaka, the event took on the inclusive and participatory feel that the English Campaign aims to inspire.
