Earlier, at least 451 Bangladeshis were detained since the crackdown began on January 21 to streamline the labour market of the country.

According to The Star, a Malaysian English daily, around 4,000 foreign workers of different nationalities were nabbed in the crackdown. The detainees are mainly from Indonesia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, India and Sri Lanka.

Most of these workers were picked up for not having valid work permit and for over-staying.

Begum Shahida Sultana, first secretary (labour) at Bangladesh high commission in Kuala Lumpur, told The Daily Star over phone that they did not hear any major raid against Bangladeshis last week and there was no panicky situation among the workers regarding the crackdown.
